Ukulele Concert

No matter how much you think you're expecting it, you can never really plan on how chaotic and exhausting the last weeks of school are!! And so, my good intentions of posting a little ukulele concert tidbit was postponed until the end of school. But here it is, in all it's glory.

There are a few interesting things to mention about this video. For example, at the end of "Nobody Likes Me" notice what the little girl in the pink does . . . I found out today that she was dared by her friends to "skwirm" at the end of the song. Kids are weird. (Here's another funny story about this song. Student #1 asked, "What song are we playing first?" Before I had a chance to answer, Student #2 said, "Nobody Likes Me." My reply was "I'm sorry!" Student #2 didn't even realize what I had said to her right away . . . but apparently she "got me back" a few days later when I said we were starting with "Nobody Likes Me!")

The second interesting tidbit is that in the second song, my students decided it was too hard to switch between a C and a G7 chord. So, you'll notice they are strumming at different times. Someone had the brilliant solution to have half of the group play the C and the other half play the G7 and alternate their strums. I was rather impressed with their ingenuity and their teamwork . . . and the song didn't sound too bad, either! (Of course, I'm not a music aficionado like some people . . . I don't have quite the "discriminating ear" that my sisters have. Of course if I did, I probably would have never undertaken teaching ten and eleven-year-olds how to play the ukulele!) Alright, enough verboseness from me. Just watch the video.

It didn't sound bad at all! In fact, it sounded pretty darn good. Congratulations!

Very nice! They do sound really good for 5th graders. Way to teach music!

I applaud you and your students!! That was a great concert. You got those ukeleles with a grant, right? Congrats on the end of the school year. Think of me as I finish out the last 17 days of school.

And P.S. where are you teaching next year?

Um and excuse my spelling of ukulele in the last post.

Also, that was totally genius of your kids to have half play the C and half play the G7. Brilliant!
