I have a very rambunctious and frequently naughty class this year. Usually it's just one or two kids, but this year there are like one or two GOOD kids. It's been stressful, to say the least. And the entire grade level is like this! (Apparently the reputation of this group preceded them. Unfortunately, no one offered me that little gem of info. I keep telling my team member that sat in on my interview that she withheld information from me during the interview . . . she keeps telling me it was so I'd actually consider coming to the school! In spite of knowing how highly desired I was at this school, I still feel a little gypped!)
One of my little gems in particular has been a little bit of a handful. She was in the principal's office the first week of school and I was told later on to trust her about as far as I could throw her. Apparently she has the habit of stretching the truth a bit. Fast forward a few weeks to parent teacher conferences. The day before conferences starts, we had a little discussion that went something like this:
Student: Guess what I got to do last night?
Teacher: Um, I don't know. Play with your friends?
Student: Nope! I got to put out a fire!!!
Teacher: Really? Where was that at?
Student: On school grounds!
She then skipped off like she was the queen of the world and left me pondering the truthfulness of the conversation! Come to find out, there was some serious truth to her statements. She just left out the important fact that she was able to put out the fire because she was the one who started it!!! Hence my new nickname for the kid: Pernicious Pyro Prevaricator!

Reminds me a bit too much of that one student, the one whose name still gives me a full body shudder. Ugh.
Wow, Sorry about the crazy kids! I'm sure you are doing great with them though. I don't know how you do it!!
