Pirates and Llamas Make Good Memories

Have you ever had one of those moments where you just feel really, really dumb but it ends up being a rather entertaining story to share? Well, thanks to my older sister, I've had a couple of those "feel dumb" moments that--with this blog--have made the memory books. Here's to future posterity laughing at us.

Once upon a time when Rachael and I were both younger (although about equally mature as we are now) we used to go grocery shopping with our mom. We were probably about junior high and high school age and we had gotten into the habit to just wander around the store a few aisles behind our mom. One day, we decided we needed to sing. Okay, so that happens quite frequently with us. So, as we wandered the aisles of the store, we were singing "Down By The Bay." If you've never heard the song, it's really a classic. You're missing out. Maybe I'll sing it for you someday. Any way, we tended to emphasize certain words . . . "Down by the BAY, where the watermelons GROW, back to my HOME, I dare not GO, for if I did, my mother would say, 'have you ever seen a LLAMA in polka-dot PAJAMAS down by the BAY?'" We were really quite enthusiastic about it, and it made it even more entertaining to sing the song together. Well, imagine, if you will, that you are an innocent bystander to this silliness. Just as we were reaching an impressive crescendo on "have you ever seen a LLAMA . . ." and turning the corner to the next aisle, we came across an old lady coming up the aisle toward us. Needless to say, we got quite an interesting look from her that I took to say, "kids these days!!"

Fast Forward to yesterday afternoon. Rachael and I had just taken Jacob to see the new Veggitales movie--The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. We met Dave and Drewser at Wendy's for a frosty afterwards and as we were switching Jacob's car seat from my car to their car, Rachael and I had another "Gotta Sing" moment. This time, it was the rock version of The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. As we got to my car after finishing a rousing rendition of the chorus, we noticed a girl sitting in her car right next to mine with her windows rolled down. Say hello to the "are you two CRAZY?" look once again. Sometimes I feel like I get that a lot when I'm with Rachael. Oh well. You may be right. I may be crazy. But, it just may be a lunatic you're looking for!

He he he . . . I can't decide if I'm a good influence on you, or a bad influence.

Who can't sing after watching veggietales? Really, I would like you to name one person. I love it!
