I remember seeing a sketch on The Muppet Show (or maybe Sesame Street . . . my memory isn't all that great and the sketch lasted less than a minute) with a row of various animals. They were chatting, as animals in a row tend to do on muppet related shows, when one of them yelled, "DUCK!!" All the animals ducked . . . except the duck, who popped his head up and said, "What?" He was promptly whacked by something or other.
In my attempts to find a video clip of this sketch, I came across an entertaining game called Whack A Duck.
Another childhood memory is of my sister and I singing a lovely little ditty about Whack a Mole, compliments of some guy running a Whack a Mole booth at the local amusement park. It is to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and goes like this:
Whack him on the head.
If you whack him hard enough,
Then he will be dead.
I'm sure you are all reading this wondering what the relevance of all this crazy animal whacking is. Well, my mom gave me some interesting advice this last week. "Just duck your head down, and you won't get whacked." Okay, so maybe she didn't say it quite like that, but the concept is that when things get really ugly, sometimes it's just best to duck and cover simply to avoid a really big headache . . . at least until you know you can pop up with confidence that you won't get whacked. And so, three cheers for duck and cover mode, because I'm tired of getting whacked!

I agree! The entertainment value of the whack a mole game is fantastic! And the fact that Kevin probably had nightmares about it is just a plus!
Now I'm going to have the Whack a mole song in my head all day . . . thanks! Isn't it fun that a lot of our crazy memories have to do with each other?
