The Silver Lining

So, my baby is in the repair shop until further notice. I miss my cute little car, especially since I have been given a giant roller skate to drive. (Unless you prefer the "stunted mini-van" image.) After Monday, my week kind of went like this: naughty kids, 5 Turn-Arounds, more naughty kids, and an odd foot swelling experience that left me practically incapacitated on Friday night. So far, 2009 has not been my favorite. But, there were a few good "silver lining" moments this week.

Lessons from Car Accidents
When the Holy Ghost tells you not to park your car somewhere, you'd better listen. Otherwise, you'll have to chalk it up to the "reasons why you shouldn't be like me and listen to your promptings" story file for sacrament meeting talks and lessons. How about that . . . . I just happened to need a good personal experience for my talk about the Holy Ghost today! Ta da! Silver lining. Ironically enough, my personal experience for the part in my talk about Heavenly Father also came from lessons I learned from a car accident . . . . apparently I get in car accidents to teach me something!

The Silver Lining of Naughty Kids
There are only 144 days, 13 hours, and 44 minutes of school left this year. That in itself should be a silver lining. But the best one came when I received an unexpected letter in district mail from a student I had in my math class last year at my previous school. She basically told me that any kid from last year that had me for home room, language arts, or math miss me. Sheesh, talk about feeling the love! It's good to be reminded that even though there will always be the naughty kids in a class, you will also always have those good kids, too.

The Silver Lining of Co-Workers
So, winter stinks. Seriously. I blame it for my most recent car accident because I usually don't park in the particular area I did on Monday, but I had a ton of stuff to carry in the building. Hence the parking closer to the building. Also, the cold does not agree with my lungs. But here's the silver lining of the icky winter weather. On Monday (pre-accident) my team leader informed me that she was planning on just taking care of my recess duty until it got warmer. Seriously . . . . team members do that for each other? I had no idea what I was missing! And then on Friday, amid all the junky foot issues, one of my other team members drove me to the car rental place so I wouldn't have to drive there on my own and experience further pain in my foot as I pushed the gas and break pedals. I really do have a great team that looks out for me and for each other . . . . just as long as I don't park next to them.

I now know who to ask about how many more days of school there are left.

On a scale of naughtiness where 10 is "These kids will end up locked up one day," how naughty is this class?

Wow, imagine that! Nice co-workers! It definitely makes work a whole lot better. Your team sounds even better than mine.

Hey, I know you did some student teaching or something at Southland Elementary, didn't you? Was that in Riverton? How did you like it?
