My baby has been maimed, and there was nothing I could do about it! Can I tell you how much I hate snow, slippery roads and parking lots, and unavoidable car accidents? Imagine, if you would, a Monday of Mondays back at school after a long break. Around 9 a.m., you wonder if the day will ever end. And around 4:30 p.m. when your co-worker comes in and says you are going to hate her, you can't imagine it being anything worse than so-and-so's mom has called and is upset at you. But alas, she has accidentally maimed your car that was merely sitting in the parking lot awaiting your arrival to carry you swiftly and safely home. I must confess, I was rather impressed with myself, though. She was clearly upset and tried to convince me I hate her. However, I calmly went and surveyed the damage, felt fortunate I could still open my door, and told her all would be well. Within a few minutes, I even had her laughing about it amidst her tears, as she wished me a "Happy New Year!" with a dented car as a gift. As she left and I went back into the building, I wasn't able to compose myself as well. Hence, the tears of frustration, not at her, but at my poor maimed vehicle, exuding with little provocation.
The pros? I left work by 5:00 p.m., just like I had decided I needed to. And, I learned a thing or two about filing insurance claims. The cons? I can no longer say I have an accident free vehicle. Although I think I might be a little less frustrated if I felt like I could have done something to protect my innocent baby! At least my seat covers are cute.
