Finally, An Explaination and A Christmas To Do List

Now that the holiday has come and gone, I feel I can enlighten all my devoted readers as to the contents of my last post. After all, it won't really ruin any surprise any more because it all happened yesterday! For months now I have been planning my sister's Christmas present. I knew what I wanted to give her, but I wasn't sure how I wanted to present it. I mean, just handing her a paper with flight information on it would have worked, but really, where's the fun in that? Hence, the technological genius comment. I managed to locate a small sound module and create my own "mini-radio" that played about 20 seconds of Frank Sinatra singing "New York, New York." Patti said she was glad I chose the Frank Sinatra version. Is there really any other version worthy of the coolness of my technological capabilities? My mom was laughing at me because this was actually the second attempt. My perfectionist tendencies wouldn't approve of the first attempt!

To top it off, I became an artistic guru (something that doesn't happen often) and created a killer card to go with it. Of course, after spending the evening with an exacto knife, my pointer finger just hasn't been quite the same since!

Apparently it went over well. Kevin's comment to me when it was all said and done was "excellent presentation!" (And yes, I pirated the pictures off of Shauna's blog because I'm too much of a goober to have remembered to take pictures before I gave it to her!) And so, that brings me to my Christmas To Do List.

Christmas To Do List
1. Make my sister cry
Check. Do I get bonus points for making everyone else cry, too? (For details, check out Shauna's blog.) How about bonus points for still being able to make my dad cry every time the subject comes up?

2. Get "Santa's Going on a Diet" out of my head
Check. This has successfully been replaced by "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra, due to the aforementioned family cry-fest.

3. Put new seat covers in my car
I love my car just as it is. And yet, I'm thinking I'm going to love my car even more after I get my new super cute, fuzzy seat covers in my car. Adam and Ronnie bought me seat covers with monkeys on them and I think they are the cutest car accessories ever! I'm just waiting until I don't have to crawl through the snow and dig my car out to get the seat covers in! Maybe I'll even consider driving somewhere in the near future, instead of being content to sit at home for the duration of my break. Of course, I could always just go sit in my car while it's parked at home . . .

4. Grade papers
Who knew I would actually WANT to grade some papers over the break? Of course, having 100 new gel pens and being able to fail students in all colors of the rainbow could have something to do with that! My mom is trying to convince me that I don't have to use the pens just to grade papers . . . she's right, but it's way too much fun to be able to fail students in 100 different colors!

5. Keep my to do list simple and stress-free
Check . . . sort of. I have spent very little time working on the list of school stuff I was intending to work on during the break. Now if only I could figure out why I've been having headaches more often lately . . . you've got to love it when you finally get a break from work and have a migraine the first night of your vacation!

All in all, it was a very memorable holiday for me, despite the aggravating headache dilemma. I love that Jon has started bringing his trumpet over on Christmas Eve to serenade the musically challenged. I appreciate it almost as much as Matthew seemed to! I also love our quirky family nativity scene we do each year. Some of the same things carry over from year to year (it was crowded, the Wise guys from the East, the audience bursting into song when "suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men"), but there seem to be new additions every year as well. This year, our Wise guys were highly entertaining, and our shepherds watched over flocks of a variety of animals. What can I say? Christmas has always been my favorite holiday. Now, what am I going to plan for next year?

You definitely get bonus points for the family cry fest. And for the fact that every time my boys push the button (which is often!), I tear up again. I'll probably be crying on the plane, and crying at the Statue of Liberty, and crying in Carnegie Hall (which I want to see, by the way), etc.
