The World Is Full of Stupid People . . . And I'm One of Them!

I generally consider myself to be fairly organized and on top of things. I write things down, post-it notes are my best friend, I consider my label maker to be one of the best purchases of my life, and I have folders within folders within folders on my computer hard drive. However, this last week, I have to admit I had a full blown stupid week.

Exhibit A
My class was lunch serving this week. This means that at 10:55 a.m., I have to send 7 kids down to help serve lunch. Day 1, I wasn't informed of this until about 10:45 a.m. so I just sent 7 kids I knew would be able to catch up on the work they missed. By the time Day 2 rolled around, I forgot we had lunch servers and my students had to remind me. On Day 3, I remembered and talked with my students about it before morning recess. By the end of morning recess, I had forgotten. At 10:50 a.m. one of my students said, "What about lunch servers?" I promptly responded, "Oh, snap!!" Of course, they laughed, and I managed to get some lunch servers down. And what do we learn from Exhibit A? That my short term memory stinks. Or maybe the lesson is that I spend too much time with Sarah . . . . (Oh, snap!!)

Exhibit B
During the aforementioned week of lunch serving, I decided that I didn't want to start math before all the students had returned from serving lunch. So, we went outside to run laps for about 30 minutes. When we came back in, I got the kids settled, and I was just about to start our math lesson for the day . . . when my technology teacher walked in and asked if I was ready for her. Imagine, if you would, a blank stare on my face at this point. "You forgot, didn't you?" Yep, I had forgotten that I had signed up for her to come in and teach a lesson with my kids. At least she wasn't observing me that day!

So, we decided to forgo math for the day, and have a cooperative learning lesson by her instead. As she was talking with my class, she said, "Everyone make sure you remind your teacher she has an assignment due before 4:00 this afternoon." Imagine, if you would, a blank stare on my face at this point. "Um, what assignment would that be?," I stupidly asked, only to have pointed out to me that the assignment reminder had been emailed the day before. I had read the email, thought to myself, "I'm done with that" and proceeded to ignore the rest of it. Only, I hadn't really done the assignment. I just thought I had. And so, I must confess, I had two "duh" moments within 30 minutes . . . . great.

I'm sure there are many, many more examples of my stupidity this week . . . with parent teacher conferences and all. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I seem to have forgotten them. Ironic, considering the root of all my recent stupidity has been my uncharacteristic forgetfulness!

(And just as a side note, I did manage to finish my assignment within like 15 minutes of school ending before my first conference . . . posted on the website and everything! At least I can still B.S. papers pretty well, even in the midst of my stupidity!)

I'm glad I'm not the only one with stupid weeks. ;) Good luck with everything, friend.

I have a feeling it's genetic. Just blame it on Mom. Of course, Mom will blame it on Dad.

You live and what? You have parent teacher conferences ALREADY!?!?

Maybe I've rubbed off on you because I always had a problem with things like that...
