Right before Spring Break I received an email at school telling me about a contest National Geographic holds each year. As soon as I saw the photos, I was intrigued . . . and then, the epiphany struck. The perfect homework assignment . . . spring break with our "peeps"! Oddly enough, my students were really excited about this particular homework assignment. My students are NEVER excited about homework. But maybe showing them the photos on the National Geographic site helped with that. My personal favorites are the ones with the Van Gogh painting and the one with the Statue of Liberty.
After giving my students the assignment, I figured it would make a fantastic bulletin board, and since April was my month for the grade level bulletin board, the timing was perfect. The only dilemma I had left was a clever heading. I'm never one for dumb and typical headings and I came up with the perfectly clever word play. Unfortunately my principal wouldn't let me call it the school peep show . . .
Here's what I finally came up with:
Here is one of my favorite projects from one of my students. My favorite part was the fact that she went so far to put photo captions on each picture. The one with the peep on the stick says, "He messed with the Indians."
I think I may have discovered the perfect Spring Break homework every year! Let the peep shows begin!
